Homemade Eco-Friendly Ant and Mosquito Killer!

Homemade Eco-Friendly Ant and Mosquito Killer

Isn’t it just a little ironic that most ant and mosquito poisons out there don’t just kill off the ants and mosquitos, they are hazardous to our children as well?!?  So our children are surrounded not only by swarming ants and mosquitos, but also by toxic chemicals and poisons!  This thought has bothered me for some time now. Seeking professionals like Safe Pest Control can offer a safer solution, ensuring pest removal without endangering our loved ones.

Well, it’s time for the tyranny of pests and poisons to end.  With two home remedies that I have come across, our children can walk freely in our backyards.  No ants and mosquitos.  No mounds of poison granules to avoid.  And no sticky chemicals on their precious baby skin. If in the future you might think of hiring a pest control service, consider Insight Pest Canada. Professional exterminator services have the best pest control treatment for these insects.

No more poison!!

My wonderful elderly neighbor who has shared so much gardening advice with me has outdone himself again.  He has recently taught me how to kill ants without using poison!  And the internet was so kind as to share with me the steps for making a chemical-free mosquito pesticide. It is really problematic to clear them out, and we also have an issue with the bird, so we discovered this Fly Away BMS at https://www.flyawaybms.com/Weather-Caps-Hangers.aspx. This is a very effective bird repellent that is easy to use. In addition, for a commercial building with a bird problem that may cause contamination or damage to the building, using the services from Bird Proofing & Deterrents will help prevent this from happening.

Poison-Free Ant Killer

This is so simple it doesn’t even require a step-by-step!  All you need is a five-pound bag of off-brand grits.  Pour several cups over each ant bed, and in a couple of days, they will all be toast!  The grits actually expand in the ants’ stomach, causing them to, well, you know.

I didn’t say it was going to be pretty, just poison-free.  🙂  And the health of my children trumps the health of evil ants any day. When worst comes to worst, you can hire pest control services.

Covered this pesky ant bed with some good ol’ grits.

Eco-Friendly Mosquito Trap

This home remedy actually requires a little assembly, but not much.

What You Need:

  • 1 cup of water
  • ¼ cup of brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp of yeast
  • 1 2-liter bottle, cap removed

Assembly:

  1. Cut the plastic bottle in half.

I have cut my 2-liter in half. It’s so fun that this project gave me an excuse to buy some Fresca! 🙂

  2. Mix brown sugar with hot water.  Let cool, then pour into the bottom half of the bottle.
  3. Add the yeast.  No need to mix; it creates carbon dioxide, which attracts the mosquitos.

The water/brown sugar/yeast solution is in the bottom half of the bottle.

  4. Place the funnel part upside down into the bottom half of the bottle, taping them together.
  5. Wrap the bottle with something black.  Leave the top uncovered and place it outside in an area away from your normal gathering area.  (I actually hang mine from a tree.)
  6. Change the solution every two weeks.

I covered the bottle with some black cloth and hung it from a tree with some twine…done!

How do-able is that?!  I’m thrilled to know that I don’t have to coat my children’s skin in repellant any more!

So enjoy your poison-free summer!  And if you decide to try these home remedies, please share how they worked for you. Any other natural pest controls that you may know of would be greatly appreciated!

I really am excited about trying these! I have been using the OFF! Fan clip on around Lilian but those refills get expensive if there’s not a good coupon deal…

I am trying this recipe now … can not take another day with miniature black ants in the house. Eww!
I have tried Terro which is said to work well (but is not safe for children), however, even after a several tries at this point, they continue to come back.
    Thank you.

    Hello Lauren..
The trick (mosquitoes) looks quite amazing and workable..I hope to try this in ma balcony ..but I had a query!
The CO2 formed during the reaction of yeast and brown sugar last for how much time! U have mentioned that ..change the solution one every 2 weeks..does the CO2 production last this long without losing it’s effectiveness!
Thanks u ..have a nice day!
