I have a precious friend who is from Brazil.
And she loves to cook.
And she invited us over to eat with her family recently.
From Brazil. Loves to cook. Invited us over.
Yippee!
The food was delicious and beautiful and unique.
But the dessert…
I’ll just sum it up: Brazilians are better at making desserts than Americans.
And this is coming from a person who has a very deep affection for bread pudding and brownies.
This dessert needs to be made available to the American public. It might change our country forever, in a culinary kind of way.
Anyway, here you go. The recipe for the most delicious strawberry dessert that I have ever had (and I don’t typically even like fruity desserts!).
Brazilian Strawberry Cream Dessert
Cast of Characters:
- 1 pack of fresh strawberries
- 1 container of frozen strawberries with sugar
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 envelope unflavored gelatin
- 16oz. heavy whipping cream
- 1 box strawberry jello
- 1/3 cup water, times 2
Directions:
1. Before you begin, you must acquire one of these little guys to help you:
2. Plop the frozen strawberries into a small saucepan.
3. Bring to a gentle boil and add the sugar. Continue to boil until it turns into a thick syrup.
4. Set aside to cool completely, eventually putting it in the fridge.
5. Once the syrup is at least to room temperature, hydrate the gelatin with some of the syrup. Then mix it all back into the syrup.
6. Beat the whipping cream, but not so that it has stiff peaks.
7. Fold the strawberry syrup mixture into the cream. Lick every surface containing this strawberry deliciousness…up until the point of contamination, of course.
8. Slice all of the strawberries nice and thin. Arrange half of them as pretty as possible in the bottom of a pyrex.
9. Pour all of the strawberry cream over the top of the strawberries.
10. Pour 1/3 cup boiling water and 1/3 cup of cold water over the strawberry jello. Allow to cool to room temperature.
11. Once it has cooled, pour it over the top of the strawberry cream.
12. Top with the remaining sliced strawberries and then refrigerate for a while.
13. While it’s in the fridge, go for a really long run. That way, when you get back you will be hungry enough and will have burned enough calories to consume entirely too much strawberry cream dessert.
Enjoy!
